Mindful Spending: How to Curb Impulse Purchases

Recently, my husband and I decided we needed to chill on spending. Let’s just say we need to be financially smart — we kind of have no choice.

It feels like a lot of us are having to be more mindful with our finances lately, or stretch our salaries just to pay all the bills.

But why is it that the moment we decide to be mindful and NOT spend on unnecessary things, suddenly everything starts looking like a need?!?!

Things we don’t need: shoes, clothes, jewelry, makeup.

The other day, we went to the mall to get some necessary things for the kids (they needed new shoes). As I was walking through the halls, seeing all the stores and displays, I was suddenly in this mental state of wanting everything. Everything looked attractive and necessary.

I couldn’t help it. I had to keep reminding myself that I didn’t need any of it. I didn’t need a new pair of jeans… but then my mind started going: “Oh, but you don’t have straight-leg ones,” and “You also need a pair of white jeans for summer,” and “Your summer wardrobe is a little outdated” (and honestly… it is).

But again, it’s not a need.

You have no idea how hard it was — not the buying part, but realizing how our minds play tricks on us. The consumerism that lives in all of us creates unnecessary needs and then somehow makes us feel sad when we don’t get them.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve never been the type of person to splurge and buy whatever I want. But I also never really had this mindset of saving. And because I knew I could buy things, they somehow felt less important? Less like a need?

What can I say… I’m just a girl.

I love fashion. I love dressing up. But now I’m trying to be more conscious about what I buy. I’ll treat myself when the time is right, and I think it’ll feel even more special then.

Anyways, that’s my morning thought.

I did make a cute selection of outfits for summer that i would love to be rocking this year, hope you like the inspo, maybe you already have some pieces in your closet that you can use!

I love this color combination, brown and pale blue look stunning together and the red in the sandals pop beautifully :

Another key element on summer is flip flops and i am really loving this brand, they look so elegant and casual at the same time, and they have a wide variety of colors:

this is what i was telling you about white jeans being a must in my wardrobe

and here is a little reminder to wear your old clothes, but look how stylish !

i love lace, everything, it adds a very feminine, sexy touch, look at this outfit :

dress over pants reminds me of my teenage years but this is the modern version and i am loving it

here we can see a lot of basics carefully put together with statement pieces.

i think this outfit is easy to recreate, and it looks effortless and chic

jeans on jeans is always a classic:

This is all for now, i think it will be fun to dive in my closet and see how i can use my existing clothes to recreate or get inspired in those outfits, also a great idea is to thrift for statement pieces, like boho shirts, Lacey camisoles, strappy dresses. Remember that fashion ir cyclic, so you can always find trendy things at thrift stores.

Hope you have a wonderful, consuming conscious day.
